“In recognition of the effort and achievements of the Philippine Red Cross, to ensure that Filipinos have access to safe blood products, PCSO is pleased to announce that it has approved the calamity assistance for dengue patients through the Philippine Red Cross in the amount of P10 million,” PCSO General Manager Royina Garma said in her speech during the 2019 Blood Donors Recognition Ceremony of the PRC in Mandaluyong City on Thursday.
“Which we are turning over to Red Cross today,” she added.
The check of P10 million was accepted by PRC chairman Senator Richard Gordon.
“This assistance is to give support to the National Blood Services of the PRC for the provision of free blood products and blood processing services to the needy patients afflicted with dengue in the entire country,” Garma said.
The National Blood Services is the PRC’s arm that delivers adequate, safe and quality blood supply to the most vulnerable.
“It is our hope that with this partnership Philippine Red Cross, our countrymen may feel PCSO’s presence in their time of need and be reminded to support PCSO’s gaming products from where we derive all our funds for health related assistance,” she added.
Garma enjoined everyone present during the event to support the gaming activities of the PCSO and its charity programs.
For his part, Gordon thanked Garma and the PCSO for the donation. The PRC chairman has also presented Garma with a plaque of appreciation.
Gordon also encouraged everyone to support the gaming activities of the PCSO.
“It is a government institution that has been there for a long time. Kong may pagkakamali ayusin natin,” Gordon said.
“Charitable organization sila eh. That means they give to anybody who may be poor. Kami ‘yung mga binibigyan namin yung mga vulnerable, ‘yung talagang wala na ibubuga, so nakakatulong ‘yung perang binigay nila,” he said.
The Department of Health has declared a national dengue alert on July 15.
According to reports, there are over 106,000 reported dengue cases in the entire country as of June 29.
“In this alarming times, the need and demand for safe, accessible and affordable blood products and services are at an all time high and may spell the difference between saving the life of the untimely death of the dengue patient,” Garma said.
