The provincial government of Cavite is monitoring a 1-year-old child from Tanza, Cavite who had a recent travel history to Italy, one of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epicenters in the world.
The whole of Italy has been on lockdown in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus after thousands of infections have been reported and hundreds have already died due to COVID-19.
Governor Jonvic Remulla disclosed Thursday that the infant was among the four persons under investigation (PUIs) who are all under the local health care unit’s watch.
Remulla on Tuesday announced the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the province, identified as a returning 48-year-old male Filipino seafarer from Imus City who passed through Narita Airport in Japan.
After the contact tracing, 11 close contacts of the first COVID-19 victim sought consultation in private hospitals in Cavite.
Remulla said nine of them where later declared asymptomatic while one has shown symptoms and is now undergoing self-quarantine.
One close contact, on the other hand, was already admitted as a PUI in a private hospital in Imus City after showing symptoms of COVID-19 infection. The person boarded the same flight with the first confirmed case in the province.
Meanwhile, the second PUI, who is a woman from another coronavirus infected country South Korea, is still confined in another private hospital in Imus City while the provincial government is waiting for her test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
Another PUI was also identified in Noveleta town.
With the growing number of PUIs, Remulla belied reports of a lockdown in Imus.
The local chief executive also advised his senior constituents to stay at home as the virus mostly targets elderly people.
On Wednesday afternoon, the health department reported 16 new confirmed COVID-19 cases bringing the total number of cases in the country to 49.
