By Raymund Antonio  Vice President Leni Robredo bears no ill feelings toward President Rodrigo Duterte for his latest tirade over her report on the government’s drug war, but she hopes he is still open to her recommendations. (Photo by Jay Ganzon / OVP / MANILA BULLETIN) Speaking at a media forum held Wednesday in Manila, Robredo said she did not take offense at Duterte’s calling her work in government a “colossal blunder” after she allegedly flunked his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs. “Iyong impresyon tungkol sa akin, karapatan niyang isipin iyon. Hindi ko dedepensahan iyong sarili ko, kasi iyong pinaka-proof naman kung nagtrabaho ako o hindi,” she said. (His impression about me, he has the right to think of me that way. I won’t defend myself because the proof lies in whether I worked or not.) The Vice President was co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) for 18 days in November last year before Duterte sacked her from her post due to alleged incompetence. Robredo released on Monday her findings and recommendations on the drug war from her short ICAD stint, but Duterte refused to consider her suggestions. She recommended that the government designate the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) as lead agency of the anti-drugs campaign, establish accurate and updated baseline data on the number of drug users and pushers, scrap “Oplan Tokhang,” activate the National Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, and separate users from pushers in processing arrests. “Pinag-igihan ko ang trabaho. Ito iyong report ko sa assignment na binigay niya sa akin. Nasa kanya naman iyon, kasi siya iyong Pangulo. Nasa kanya kung may susundin siyang rekomendasyon o wala," she said. (I worked hard. Despite the difficulties she faced during her brief ICAD stint, Robredo said she has “no regrets” that she accepted the post. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa opportunity. Ito ang aking ambag (I’m grateful for the opportunity. This report is my contribution),” she said. The purpose of publicizing the report, she said, was not to criticize or attack anyone, but to help improve the implementation of the drug war. “The mere fact that I took the challenge, I was extending my hand to help despite the many insults that I had to bear.” The lady official added that she will continue to advocate for a better anti-drug campaign.
