MANILA, Philippines — League-leading AirAsia Philippine shoots for the first round pennant when it battles defending champion Chang Thailand Saturday in a rematch of last year’s finalists in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League.
The AirAsia PH Patriots (5-1) collide with the Thailand Slammers at 7 p.m. at the Thai-Japanese Association gym in Bangkok with the inaugural champions determined to stretch their winning streak to five.
The PH Patriots are sporting a 5-1 record while the Slammers have a 3-4 mark.
Meanwhile, the San Miguel Beermen (4-2) battle the streaking Indonesia Warriors (3-3) at The Mahaka Square in Jakarta also at 7 p.m.
The Patriots of co-owners Mikee Romero and Tony Boy Cojuangco will face the Slammers for the first time since getting dethroned as champions almost exactly a year ago.
Expected to lead the Glenn Capacio-coached squad are Anthony Johnson and Nakiea Miller, Al Vergara, Aldrech Ramos and Warren Ybanez.
"We need to find consistency on the defensive side," said Capacio. "We take pride in our defense. Our main goal is to limit our opponents to just 60 points a game. We're doing fine on offense, we just have to play within our system and offense can take care of itself."
The Patriots expect another rugged game just like in their 80-75 win over the the Singapore Slingers last Sunday in Singapore.
