Mo Tautuaa played the unlikely hero as San Miguel evaded the upset axe from Terrafirma, 108-105, in the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday, April 10.

With the Dyip threatening to repeat their huge upset win over Barangay Ginebra last time out, Tautuaa emerged from the shadows of seven-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and took over in the final frame where he poured 17 of his season-high 24 points.
The Beermen trailed for the most part of the contest before timely hits from Tautuaa carried the fight for SMB – none bigger than a booming triple that gave his team some breathing room, 111-107, with 1:34 left.
Terrafirma retaliated with its own trey courtesy of Isaac Go but Tautuaa made sure to not let his splendid game go to waste after scoring an undergoal stab that put the Beermen up by three, 113-110 with 15 seconds remaining in the clock.
Tautuaa also made his presence felt on the defensive end, denying Juami Tiongson a clear shot from the three-point territory which forced the Dyip to go once again to Go on its final attempt.
Go, however, back rimmed his triple that could have sent the game to the extra period.
Tautuaa added eight rebounds and four assists – a well-rounded performance that helped the Beermen preserve their unbeaten slate through five games.
CJ Perez still led the way in the scoring with 25 points apart from six rebounds and five assists while Fajardo posted a double-double line of 20 points and 17 rebounds that also came with six assists.
Terrence Romeo was the other double-digit scorer for SMB with 16.
Juami Tiongson and Stephen Holt spearheaded the Dyip in the contest that saw them lead by as many as 12 points in the first half.
Tiongson fired away with 24 points while Holt had a near-triple-double effort of 18 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
The Dyip, who are looking to eclipse their best record of four wins under head coach Johndel Cardel, also got solid contributions from Go and Javi Gomez De Liano with 21 points apiece.
Their efforts, however, went down the drain as they slid down to 4-4 slate in the standings
