Visits at Pangasinan provincial jail suspended due to COVID-19 threat

By Liezle Basa-Inigo LINGAYEN – The Pangasinan Provincial Jail suspended the regular visits for inmates every Saturday, as well as conjugal visits, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Provincial Warden Ferdinand Natividad clarified that the temporary suspension was not a form restriction and harassment to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and their visitors, but just as a preventive measure to fight the spread of COVID-19. Prior to the suspension order, the Department of Health (DOH) and Provincial Health Office (PHO) advised the public to avoid crowded places to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19. Despite the suspension on regular visits, Natividad said they will still accommodate the sending of food and consignments of PDLs from their visitors within given hours on certain days. On February 13, Governor Amado I. Espino III issued a public advisory on the postponement of events of the Provincial Government of Pangasinan in compliance with the recent advisories of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Health.
