About 100 families rendered homeless by huge fire in Parola, Tondo

Around 100 families will be welcoming the New Year without homes after a huge fire engulfed a residential area in Parola, Tondo, Manila on Sunday.

Initial investigation showed the blaze started at 10:45 a.m. on the second floor of a two-story residential building owned by one Joel Acontillado in Parola, Tondo, Manila.
The fire razed around 50 houses, and reached the fourth alarm at 10:59 a.m.
Fire authorities said it was extinguished at 1:19 p.m. after 16 fire trucks responded to the blaze.
The cause of fire and the amount of damage were still being determined as of press time.
On Saturday, a fire also struck a residential area along Old Balagtas Street, Barangay 833, Pandacan Manila that left one person injured and 300 families homeless.
It reached the fifth alarm and was declared under control at 11:57 a.m.
Authorities placed the damage at P2 million.
