The province of Laguna is, of course, most noted as the hometown of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Apart from having raised the country’s honored hero, Laguna is also home to honorable Lagunenses such as soldier-lawyer-legislator Pedro Guevarra from Sta.Cruz and General Vicente Lim from Calamba who fought for freedom during the Japanese War.
Laguna is similarly known as the resort capital of Luzon, and why not? It’s a favorite destination for travelers seeking a refreshing respite from the scorching heat of the summer sun as hundreds of resorts have been developed within the province. However, Laguna’s Pagsanjan Falls is equally a point that is never missed when planning a travel itinerary in Laguna . The thrill and adventure that white-water rafting brings is indeed incomparable. Of course, let us not forget to mention the majestic and mysterious Mount Makiling, whose charm and mystique never fail to entice budding mountaineers. There is also Laguna de Bay which has blessed the province as well as adjacent localities in countless ways.
Second to Rizal province, Laguna was also recognized during the 6th Regional Competitive Summit as the Second Most Competitive Province in the Philippines. Laguna’s economy continues to thrive as revenues from various businesses and industries within the province altogether contribute to its continued growth and development. Other local industries also contribute to Laguna’s rise such as the carving industry in and the slippers industry in Liliw, among others.
The province is a completely packaged unit – rich in history and culture, blessed with natural wonders, economically competitive and wisely governed. Local leadership, not only in Laguna but for any other locality, is a crucial element of development as leaders will steer the wheel, so to speak, towards the path of growth. Good governance coupled with stakeholders’ support, as I always say, is a formula for community building that never fails to deliver positive results.
The province of Laguna offers us a shining example of a well-balanced locality. We see a complete picture of industrial development, cultural and historical preservation and environmental protection and conservation. Need we say more?
