BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) reported 15 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Caraga region on Monday night, July 6.
DOH Caraga received 200 RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) results from Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) sub national laboratory, and disclosed that 166 tested negative, and 34 positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The negative RT-PCR results were from a suspect case at the Butuan Doctors Hospital, five probable cases from Butuan Doctors Hospital and Agusan del Sur quarantine facility, and 160 results coming from high-risk individuals who either have turned positive in the Rapid Antibody-based Test or with relevant travel and exposure to COVID-19.
The 34 samples confirmed positive for COVID-19 included 19 follow-up tests of previously confirmed cases and 15 new cases, the DOH-CHD Caraga said.
Of the 15 new cases, eight were locally stranded individuals (LSIs), four were returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and three were frontliners.
As to sex distribution, 73.3% (11) are males whereas 26.67% (4) are females. For age group, 46.67% belong to ages 20-30 years old.
Cases were distributed in the following areas: municipalities in Agusan del Norte- Buenavista (1), Las Nieves (1), Cabadbaran City (1), Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur (1), municipalities in Surigao del Norte- Alegria (2), Gigaquit (3), Sison (1), Sta. Monica (1), and Tagbina, Surigao del Sur (3), Bislig City (1), also of Surigao del Sur province.
All cases were asymptomatic, and immediately admitted and isolated at designated quarantine facilities region wide for monitoring and management.
With the spike of COVID-19 cases in Caraga region, the DOH reiterated on Tuesday its previous announcement to take extra- precautionary measures and strictly abide all the health protocols issued by the agency and the regional inter-agency task force.

Together we can fight this battle,” DOH 13 Regional Director Dr. Jose R. Llacuna, Jr. said.
To date, Caraga region has a total of 176 cumulative confirmed positive COVID-19 cases.
