MANILA, Philippines — The original frontmen of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark a.k.a. OMD – Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys – and their original band members Martin Cooper and Malcolm Holmes, are set to hit Manila for a concert on March 12, 8 p.m. at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

In “History of Modern Concert Tour,” OMD will perform anthemic “If You Leave” as well as “Secret,” “So In Love,” “Dreaming,” “Enola Gay,” and more.

“History of the Modern” marks the release of their 11th studio album, raved by critics and selling briskly in Europe, reaching #28 in the UK album charts. OMD regrouped in 2007 and started touring again.

The Ricketts Miss Manila Life

Max and Edith Ricketts have not been home to Manila in 14 years.

Edith very much misses her get-togethers with the Rhapsody and Seranata singing groups. They hope to visit Manila in October.

Late last year, they regretted missing the wedding anniversary party of their friends, former BIR Commissioner Joe Ong and his wife Nely. They also missed the birthday celebration of Dr. Romy Protacio. They remarked that while there are many enjoyable social activities in San Diego, they miss life in Manila.

Aside from their busy real estate brokerage, they stay active with ballroom dancing and attending San Diego and La Jolla fashion shows. One of their 2011 highlights was the 20th anniversary program of the San Diego Filipino-American Humanitarian Foundation headed by Dr. Erwin Yorobe and wife Bisby. Max and Edith participated in the fashion show segment and joined in a tango exhibition.

Their eldest son, martial arts grand master Topher, was interred in the family plot at Loyola Memorial Park, Parañaque last November. Topher’s wife, Beth, and three sons, Bruce, Brandon and Jett flew to Manila for the ceremony.

Bruce graduated from the Art Institute of San Diego with highest honors in culinary arts. He runs his own restaurant Sensei in BF Homes, Parañaque at 268 Aguirre St. Sensei, meaning martial arts master, is a tribute to Bruce’s father.

Movie fans may well remember Bruce’s appearances in several of his Uncle Ronnie Ricketts’ films a decade ago. While in the US, Bruce also studied at Casablanca Acting Academy in Beverly Hills where Hollywood stars such as Drew Barrymore also attended. Bruce longs to return to the movie business.

The Ricketts’ second son, Alex, who’s in the US Army Airborne recently, returned from army duty in Afghanistan.

The Ricketts’ hard working third son Ronnie, now Chairman of the Optical Media Board (OMB), also attends to the family’s Manila business on weekends.

Fourth son Jason now has four children and works at the US Naval Base in Coronado, California.
