Former athlete-turned-actor O.J. Simpson has passed away following a battle with prostate cancer. He was 76.

Simpson's demise was announced by his family on social media. The full announcement:

"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.

"He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

"During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace. - The Simpson Family."

Simpson was a decorated football player and actor who was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife and her friend. However, he was later found liable for their deaths in a separate civil trial, according to the Associated Press.
