3 Towns Release 55,000 Fingerlings

LINGAYEN, Panagsinan — The fisheries industry in this province will get an added boost with the release of another batch of 55,000 tilapia fingerlings in the coast extending across the municipalities of Mapandan, Urbiztondo and Labrador.

Albay Redefines Civil-Military Ops

LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) — The Albay Public Safety and Management Office cited Monday the critical role of the military and other men-in-uniform in assisting civil authorities in building disaster resilient communities especially in remote and high risk areas.

Roderick Mendoza gave weight to civil-military cooperation the disaster capability building component of Philippines-US Pacific Angel 12-1“Bayanihan” kicked off Monday with lectures and interfacing with DRRM authorities of Albay, military and police personnel, and other stakeholders.

Various risk reduction initiatives were discussed, said Mendoza.

BFAR Deputizes 48 Fish Wardens

TUGUEGARAO CITY (PIA) — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 2 deputized 48 new fish wardens in Maconacon, Palanan, and Divilacan, in a move to bolster fishery law enforcement in the coastal towns of Isabela.

Arsenio Bañares, Fisheries Regulatory and Quarantine Division chief of BFAR 2, said the deputized fish wardens (DFWs) shall complement personnel from law enforcement agencies such as the Philippine National Police in the implementation of fishery laws, rules, and regulations.

“There are still reports on illegal fishing and poaching in said areas. We aim to increase awareness on fishery laws,” Bañares said.

S.K. Launches Tilt For Bands

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — To nurture the musical talents of the youth, the national president of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) has launched a “Battle of the Bands” competition in this province.

Assistant Secretary Gabz del Rosario said the battle of the bands dubbed as “Battle of Bataan” will be held on April 20, 2012 at Bataan Peoples Center.

Del Rosario said he expects the support of all SK officers and the youth in this project. A P30,000 cash prize plus a complete set of musical equipment for the band is at stake for the winner of the competition, he said.

“By organizing the event and tapping the best musical group in the locality, we can choose the best among the best,” said Del Rosario.

His father, Mayor Ramil del Rosario of Bagac, said this youth-oriented project will somehow motivate the young leaders to learn more the art of music. (Mar T. Supnad)

Laguna Police Offers Big Reward

CAMP PACIANO RIZAL, Laguna — The Laguna Police Provincial Office (PPO) offered Monday a P100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of two robbers responsible for the death of a 19-year-old student of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) last Sunday.

Senior Supt.Gilberto Cruz,Laguna police director said the reward was offered for the possible arrest of the perpetrators of the crime that cost the life of Ray Peñaranda awas put up by the Capitol. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
