Cavite Population Rapidly Going Up
TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — The population of Cavite has rapidly increased, based on the census that was conducted every year in the province since the New Millennium.
The Provincial Population Office (PPO) said that the number of people in Cavite is estimated to be 3,632,275 by year-end or an increase of 76 percent as compared to the province’s population of 2,063,161 in 2000.
PPO Officer 1 Conchita P. Valledor, said unless the population is controlled, the number of people in Cavite is projected to be 4,686,515 after five years (2017) from 3,458,043 in 2011. (Anthony Giron)
Women’s Health Center in Quezon
LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The celebration of Women’s Month is given special importance in this province with the completion of the new Quezon Medical Center (QMC) annex building which will house a women’s health center.
Quezon Governor David C. Suarez said yesterday that the newly constructed medical facility will offer medical services for those suffering from cervix and breast cancers and ailments most associated with women. Medical experts on women’s health will be running the facility. (Danny Estacio)

MARIVELES, Bataan — The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) here, headed by its chief Amado Villanueva, has vowed to uphold environmental laws to ensure sustainable development in this fast-rising industrial area of Bataan.
This, after the PENRO received a request from Mayor Jesse Concepcion to investigate a Japanese-owned company importing scraps from Japan that has allegedly been operating without the required clearances from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The investigation focuses on the alleged entry of tons of the reported hazardous, toxic-laden and possibly radiation-contaminated scraps from the exploded Japanese Nuclear Power Plant in Fukusima. (Mar T. Supnad)
La Union Hosts Surfing Contest
VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — All is set for the longest running surf competition for Manila-based and local surfers in Northern Luzon to be held along the shorelines of Barangay Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union on March 10-11, 2012.
John Patrick Ong, the Vice President for Marketing of the Manila Surfer’s Association (MSA), said the competition is spearheaded by the MSA in cooperation with the Aloha Boardsports and the La Union Surf Club (LUSC). “Actually, the event is now the 7th Annual Manila Surfer’s Cup which will be held in Barangay Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union this weekend,” he said. Laguna Police Rescue 3 Minors
NAGCARLAN, Laguna — Three minors working as guest relation officers in a KTV bar, here, were rescued by elements of Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT) following the arrest of four persons on Wednesday, police reported yesterday.
Chief Inspector Orlando Castil, Laguna CIDT chief, identified those arrested in “Oplan Nena” as Charito Vita, owner of Papayahan KTV Bar in Barangay 3, here; Romeo Paderes, cashier; Rogelio Coronado, bouncer; and Renee Lumaban. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
