P.R.C.-L.G.U.S Partnership

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) is forging partnerships with local government units (LGUs) in efforts to fulfill its mandate to secure a reliable, trustworthy and progressive system of developing professionals in the country.

In connection, PRC Chairperson Teresita R. Manzala will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today with the Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar provincial governors; the Tacloban and Ormoc city mayors; and the Department of Labor and Employment-8 at the Balyuan Convention Center in Tacloban City.

Satellite Registration

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, (PIA6) — Some 400 voters in Barangay San Jose here have benefited from the Commission on Election’s (Comelec) satellite registration last week which is part of the ongoing voter’s registration and validation of records for the 2013 national and local elections.

“We need to conduct the satellite registration because there are about 38,000 with no validated records in our office,” said Comelec-Roxas City Election Supervisor lawyer Jomar Betit. Betita said that Punong Barangays must send a request to the Comelec to check schedule availability.

Market Cleanup

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA6) — A task force composed of residents and local officials conducted clean-up activities in two major public markets here last week. Students and city and barangay officials mobilized by the Clean and Green Task Force Two swooped down Central and Libertad public markets, task force head Myrna Servando said.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson expressed hope that the vendors in said public markets would maintain the general cleanliness of their areas as a way of increasing the value of the two markets to the buying public.

I.O.M./O.C.H.A. Tapped

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Field Office-7 tapped the expertise of the International Organization of Migrants (IOM) and Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Agencies (OCHA) in the operation of evacuation centers/ camps (ECs) in disaster-stricken areas.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Camilo Gudmalin said the expertise from these two partners are needed to educate both national and local social workers and other service providers on how an evacuation center or camp will be managed, including information and tools to come up with a uniform and standard structure for all ECs.

Women's Congress

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — A Women's Congress marking this month’s celebration of Women’s Month in Biliran will be held on March 21 and 22 and organizers say it will be a combination of “information dissemination and fun.

” Women employees are urged to set up their own sleeping tents and bring their meals which may be charged to their agencies’ Gender and Development (GAD) budget, Governor Gerardo "Gerry Boy" Espina Jr. said, adding that if the women employees opt not to put up their own tents, they may just listen to the topics to be discussed, observe the different skills demonstrations and livelihood trainings, and enjoy the games and socials.
