Pro-Poor Projects Set In Jalajala
JALAJALA, Rizal — This town, which takes pride in its Seal of Good Housekeeping award, is focused on pursuing projects in line with its anti-poverty alleviation program, Mayor Elionor “Ely” Pillas said over the weekend.
The mayor has informed Akbayan Partylist Spokesperson Lisa Hontiveros Baraquel, who once stayed in this town for quite some time during her student days, that 9 of his priority projects hope to answer the needs of the town in terms of education, health, tourism, and economy. (Nel B. Andrade)
Chief Promises Peace In LIimay
LIMAY, Bataan — Chief Inspector Crizalde M. Conde, newly-designated chief of police (COP) here, has vowed to sustain the momentum of peace in this industrial town even as he assured the local leadership here to further rid the town of illegal drugs and other forms of criminality.
Conde said that Mayor Ver Roque instructed him to further maintain the atmosphere of peace in Limay to protect the business establishments, traders and workers.
A highly-industrialized town, Limay is the site of the Petron Bataan Refinery where 60 to 80 percent of the country’s petroleum needs is being processed. (Mar T. Supnad)
Modern Library
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Library services in Pangasinan will soon be converted from manual to automated with the implementation of the KOHA-Integrated Library System Online Public Access Catalogue.
In its launching rites held Friday at the Pangasinan Provincial Library here, Provincial Administrator Raffy Braan said the event was a milestone. “We have to embrace modern technology and going global using cyberspace as a medium of communication is highly commendable,” Baraan said.
National Library of the Philippines (NLP) Information Technology Division Chief Edgardo Quiros said books will be made easier to locate under the modernization project. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
Pampanga To Invest In Chili
FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga — The Provincial Government of Pampanga is pushing for the community-wide “siling labuyo” (red chili) agricultural development project for the Aeta communities residing at their 50-hectare Nabuklod ancestral domain here.
Governor Lilia Pineda ordered the initial planting of chili covering at least 10 hectares of the area. The “siling labuyo,” can very well become Nabuclod’s “most promising crop.”
Earlier, Pineda signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the local government of Dupax, Nueva Ecija for the technology development partnership of the two provinces. (Mark Anthony N. Manuel)
Women's Month Events Draw Cops
CAMP FLORENDO, La Union — All policewomen from different police units in Region 1 joined the kick-off ceremony of the Women’s Month celebration held here last Thursday.
They joined the fun walk from the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University -- Mid-La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC) to the Commission on Audit gymnasium under the theme.
A thanksgiving mass and climate change were also held with Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, regional director, in attendance. (Freddie G. Lazaro and Liezle Basa Iñigo)
