Banwahanon Awards
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. — Banwahanon Award nominations are now open. Said awards are given during Bacolod City’s Charter Day celebration which has been reset to June 18 from October 19 originally. June 18 was when Bacolod was proclaimed, through Commonwealth Act No. 326, a city.
Nominees will be judged by their impact in rendering community service and their contribution to Bacolod’s overall socio-economic and cultural development.
They should be a Filipino citizen, from the private sector, a Bacolod resident for at least a decade, not a previous award recipient and willing to serve the city if called upon. (Edith B. Colmo)
T.B. Day
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Iloilo will play host to the national observance of World TB Day on March 24 with Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona as guest speaker.
The annual event marks the date in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria causing tuberculosis (TB) an infectious bacterial disease commonly affecting the lungs and is transmitted from person to person via droplets from the throat and lungs of TB-afflicted persons.
DOH-6 regional TB coordinator Dr. Edith Gimotea said the anti-TB campaign in the region is “doing well since from 238 TB cases per a population of 100,000 in 2000, the number was cut to 160 per 100,000 population in 2010.”
L.G.U. Counseling
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Mandaue City government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is conducting “employment coaching” to graduating students of public national high schools in the city to prepare them for employment in case they cannot proceed to college due to financial issues.
Last week, 374 graduating students including 53 who have been enrolled in night school at the Canduman National High School, gathered at the school’s open court for the “employment coaching” session which includes a lecture by PESO on available job vacancies, labor standards from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and illegal recruitment from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
Entrepreneurship Seminar
SIQUIJOR (PIA) — In preparation for the annual Healing Festival come Holy Week in April, Siquijor’s Provincial Small and Medium Enterprises Development Council (PSMEDC) conducted a Tourism and Entrepreneurship Awareness Seminar for Siquijor traditional healers and herbalists at the SP Session Hall, Capitol here.
Siquijor provincial tourism officer Jossette Almirola said healers and herbalists should be made aware that they can contribute in selling Siquijor as the island of healing and thus enhance local tourism.
O.P.A.P.P. Workshop
BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar (PIA) — The Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) held a two-day workshop on peace and development at St. Mary’s College Auditorium, this city which ended Wednesday, 14.
The workshop on “Provincial Workshops on Mainstreaming Peace and Development in Local Governance (MPDLG),” is in line with the PAyapa at MAsaganang PAmayanan (PAMANA) program, for Samar Island.
