By Analou De Vera The Department of Tourism (DOT) has assured that it will conduct a "thorough review" on the recent report of the Commission on Audit (COA) of its spending worth P507.304 million that lack supporting documents. Department of Tourism (MANILA BULLETIN) "The Department of Tourism will conduct a thorough review of the findings contained in the recently published report of the Commission on Audit," said the tourism department in a statement. "The COA findings also covers the projects from the previous administration of the DOT, under then-Sec. Wanda Teo. Around 90 percent of the P507 million spending in question was during this period," it added. The DOT said that Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat has instructed all the officials of the department to "prepare pertinent documentation and responses to comply with the requirements of the COA." "Sec. Puyat maintains that the agency remains committed to the Administration’s policy of transparency and accountability," the DOT said. Based on the COA report, various disbursements of the tourism department that amounts to P507.304 million "were not supported with the necessary documents to establish their validity." "We recommend that management direct the chief accountants and other responsible person/staff to submit the lacking documents; ensure that payments made are properly supported with complete documents," the COA said.
