Senator Panfilo Lacson might run for president of the country someday, President Duterte said Tuesday, noting his penchant for commenting on every issue at hand.

But the President advised Lacson to be circumspect about his public statements as it might be used against him someday.
“He is not a lawyer but his penchant to just right away (comment) on every issue. I think he's running for president,” Duterte said during the oathtaking of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines officers in Malacañang.
“I would caution him to be more circumspect because pagdating ng panahon, 'yan magagamit ng kalaban niya (when time comes, his rivals will be used these against him). Sheer ignorance, trying to be a crusader but ignorant,” he added.
Duterte made the comment after Lacson disagreed with his view that policemen can accept small tokens out of gratitude from the public.
He said he could forgive Lacson for his comment since he is not a lawyer. But he urged the senator to brush up on his laws, saying there was nothing illegal with his statement about accepting unsolicited gifts with nominal amount.
“I can forgive him because he's not a lawyer,” he said.
“I quoted the very words sa Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices. There is an exception there. Nominal. I used the word nominal and out of gratitude,” he said.
