Tech-Voc trainees in Iloilo
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Women who otherwise would be socio-economically unproductive because they lack or did not finish formal schooling, are finding fulfillment through technical-vocational training offered by the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC).
TIIC Administrator Carlito Jusa said the TIIC is committed to uplift Iloilo City’s marginalized sector through technical-vocational skills training, giving women a chance to be productive. The TIIC’s Bo. Obrero campus was formerly Helping Foundation, Inc., a livelihood and productivity center established in 1996 as a special project of then First Lady Amelita Ramos.
Clean Stations
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Capiz police director S/Supt. Domingo S. Cabillan wants clean and orderly police stations provincewide, saying Capiz PNP remains advocates of healthy and clean environments. He says cleanliness and proper waste management practices are strictly observed in all police stations in Capiz.
“Spot inspection as compliance to our Clean and Green program is done regularly so there is no way I cannot see deficiencies in the lower units,” Cabillan said. The Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPPO) recently received 24 trash bins from Petron Corporation, replacing worn-out wastebaskets at police stations in the province, and in support of the CPPO’s cleanliness campaign.
D.T.I. Seminar
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Doors to more business opportunities are open to Cebu businessmen abroad with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s holding of a seminar on ‘Doing Business with Australia and New Zealand,’ last March 23 here.
The seminar was aimed at increasing awareness among Cebu companies on how to effectively access Australian and New Zealand markets. The seminar also informed participants on how to avail of benefits from reduced or eliminated tariffs under the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Foreign Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) and the various procedures and documentary requirements on availing these benefits.
Peace Education
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Over 100 faculty and student-teachers from Negros Oriental and Siquijor schools recently participated in a peace education workshop in this city. The workshop, facilitated by three Silliman University (SU) is in response to Executive Order No. 570 or “Institutionalizing Peace Education in the Curriculum – Its Impact to Teaching Peace” issued in 2006.
Said EO mandates the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to “actively promote a culture of peace in the educational system” in the country.
Graduates Aided
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) - Rare is a school that sees its graduates get jobs. The Naval State University (NSU) did just that by hosting the two-day 4th NSU Mega Jobs Fair which began last March 21. The fair was intended to assist unemployed graduates of NSU find possible employment here and abroad.
Department of Labor and Employment Regional Director Exequiel R. Sarcauga said in the DOLE’s facilitation during job fairs lessens expenses of job applicants in seeking jobs because “the opportunity is brought directly to them.” Sarcauga also gave tips and advise on how jobseekers could do their best in job interviews.
