In a bid to boost the government's capacity to address the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries Philippines Inc. donated medical supplies and equipment to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Wednesday.

The turnover of the 200 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets, 4,000 surgical masks, 1,000 KN95 masks, 200 goggles, 14 foot bath disinfectants, and 50 isolation gowns was held in a ceremony at the NDRRMC headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Defense Secretary and concurrent NDRRMC Chairperson Delfin Lorenzana and NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad received the donations from Malaysian Ambassador Norman Muhamad, MCCI president and co-founder Edward Ling, Special Envoy of the President to Malaysia lawyer Wencelito Tan Andanar, Malaysian Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Rizany Irwan Muhamad Mazlan, Malaysian Embassy Minister Counsellor Sharifah Ezneeda Wafa, and other officials from the MCCI.
In a statement, the NDRRMC extended its "utmost gratitude" to the donors for its help in the national government's COVID-19 response.
"The continuous effort of various sectors to assist the country in the fight against COVID-19 is undeniably a tremendous support to the over-all response," it said.
The donated medical supplies and equipment will be distributed by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to various hospitals in the country.
According to NDRRMC, the MCCI is the first member-country of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to create a foreign business chamber in the Philippines that aims to "achieve a successful and harmonious diversity of trade and culture between Malaysia and the Philippines."
