Lapid files reso congratulating PH's wrestling association
Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid has filed a resolution commending the Wrestling Association of the Philippines (WAP) for their outstanding performance in the 2022 Singapore Beach Wrestling Fiesta held last August 28, 2022 in Sentosa, Singapore.

Lapid, in filing Senate Resolution No. 176, cited the exemplary performance of the association to the international sporting event, saying “they deserve the highest praise, recognition, and commendation for bringing pride and inspiration to the Filipino people and for showing the world the unrelenting spirit of Filipino sports excellence.”
The WAP represented the country in the international sporting event which featured wrestling, sambo and belt wrestling events, bringing home a total of 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals.
“Ang delegasyon ng Pilipinas ay nararapat sa pinakamataas na papuri para sa kanilang pagsisikap sa katatapos lang na international meet. Ang panalong ito ay hindi lamang panalo para sa mga atletang Pinoy kundi para sa bansa (The Philippine delegation deserve the highest honor because for their efforts in the recently held international meet. This victory is not just a victory for Filipino athletes but for the whole country),” Lapid said in a statement.
“Kaya dapat lang na ipakita natin ang ating suporta para sa kanila. Hinihikayat ko ang aking mga kasamahan sa Senado na tingnan pa kung paano tayo makakatulong na palakasin pa lalo ang ating sports programs (That’s why it’s only fitting that we show our support for them. I also encourage my colleagues in the Senate to look for ways on how we can strengthen our sports programs),” Lapid said.
In particular, the senator said the Senate should look into granting them the right support and incentives—a small amount for the pride and honor they give to the country.
“For so many years now, our national teams have kept on bringing pride and honor to our country,” he noted.
“Kaya nais nating siguruhing natatanggap nila ang tamang suporta mula sa gobyerno upang patuloy silang makapagsanay nang maayos at makapag uwi pa nang maraming parangal sa ating bansa (That’s why we need to ensure they are receiving the right amount of support from the government so they can continue in training well and give back more honor to our country),” the senator stressed.
Those who won during the wrestling meet were Uzziah Asher Gulay who won gold in both the beach sambo (cadets-boys) category and beach wrestling as well; Noel Noarada who won gold in the men’s beach wrestling (70 kg) and silver in the beach sambo (73 kg) category; and Jefferson Manatad who won gold in the men’s beach wrestling (90 kg) and silver in the beach sambo category (90 kg).
