Tool Kits
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Sixty Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) "specialists" received tool kits from TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva in a program at the Iloilo capitol lobby last March 27, Tuesday.
Villanueva said the tool kits are provided to TESDA specialists or those who received technical-vocational training from TESDA’s partner-institutions here. Such training includes refrigeration and air-conditioning servicing, computer hardware servicing, cellphone repair services, appliance repair services, carpentry, masonry, among others.
Villanueva said the 39.1 percent of those employable in the country who have no jobs are the particular target of TESDA’s help through tech-voc training and those provided with said tool kits.
Y.E.M. Scholars
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — A total of 102 poor but deserving students in Antique are set to march for their graduation. The students are recipients of education subsidy from International Organization for Migration under the Youth Employment and Migration (YEM) project funded by the Spanish government.
Three Antique schools — Antique National School in San Jose with 48 beneficiaries, Barasanan B National High School in Tobias Fornier with 26 beneficiaries and General Leandro Fullon National School in Fabrica, Hamtic with 28 beneficiaries — are recipients of this project with disadvantaged children given P1,000 monthly subsidy for their educational needs and P500 to defray miscellaneous fees during enrolment.
Bamboo Plantation
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Negros Oriental Provincial Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council (PSMEDC) is encouraging farmers here to start planting bamboos not only for business opportunities but to lessen disaster risk.
In a meeting of the Small & Medium Development Council (SMEDC) recently, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) introduced the Philippine Bamboo Foundation Inc. (PBFI) which has three bamboo nurseries in the province catering to growing demands for bamboo here and abroad.
Talisay Mini-Park
TALISAY CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Talisay City Jail Management in Talisay City, Cebu plans to put up a mini-park inside the jail compound where inmates and their families can spend time together. Deputy Warden, Jail Inspector Emilianito Enriquez bared this in the recent Cebu Association of Cities and Municipalities Information Officers (CAOCAMPIO) monthly meeting here.
The Talisay City jail has 288 prisoners, 30 of which are female; majority of prisoners are from Talisay City. Enriquez said park construction should be done by year-end or early next year. He said the mini-park will serve as a leisure area for the inmates’ adult and children visitors.
Limasawa Run
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — The Maasin city government will hold the second "Run for Limasawa" today to support activities of the 491st Anniversary of the First Mass held in the Philippines. A registration fee of P30 for adults and P20 for children will be collected from participants.
Proceeds will be turned over to the Limasawa Catholic church, The route of the run which will start 4 p.m. will start from the city hall grounds to Barangay Mantahan, then to Barangay Combado. Interested participants are urged to visit the City Sports Council and the City Mayor's offices.
