The milk bank will give infants, including premature and undernourished babies, access to breast milk in times of emergency.
Mothers who are unable to breastfeed may also acquire breast milk in the facility.
Malabon City Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta III, along with Ospital ng Malabon officials, led the inauguration of the milk bank on September 25.
The bank is equipped with a pasteurization machine, human milk analyzer, peristaltic pump, and freezer, that will be used in collecting, sterilizing, testing, and storing human milk. Breast milk can be stored for up to a year.
The equipment was donated by local Rotary International chapters while the milk was donated by lactating mothers who participated in previous breastfeeding drives in barangay health centers.
The breast milk will be free for residents of Malabon City but those who live outside Malabon will be charged.
