President Duterte does not think he will take former marine captain Nicanor Faeldon back in his government following the controversies he faced in two of the three posts he has handled for the past three years. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (ROBINSON NIÑAL JR./PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO) Duterte made the statement days after he publicly sacked Faeldon as chief of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for his disobedience about the release of convicts under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law. In an interview with GMA News, Duterte maintained that he still trusts Faeldon but said the former marine captain may have reached the end of his run in government. "No, not. I don’t think so na (anymore). He has had enough of controversies in his, in the last few years. But I still believe that---I do not believe that he is dishonest," he said. Only two days after he sacked Faeldon, Duterte vouched for Faeldon's honesty, citing how he exposed Mighty Corporation for using fake stamps. Earlier, Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said that it was up to Duterte if he would give Faeldon yet another government position but said that if the President decides to do such, the public should trust the President. The BuCor post was Faeldon's third government position under Duterte. He first served as commissioner of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and then was transferred to the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) following the shabu smuggling case at the BOC. Come back Meanwhile, Duterte renewed his calls for convicts released under the GCTA to surrender themselves, reiterating that his order was to get them dead or alive. "Sabi ko hindi ko kayo kukulungin (I said I won't imprison you). I’m just asking you to come back, have your sentence recomputed and if you fall within that category of those who will be released, you can go, you can go home," he said. "For the heinous crimes, well, let me think about it. Either I set you free or I drop you there in the Pasig River," he added. The law According to Duterte, the government can go to the Supreme Court to clarify the law that has been misinterpreted. "This law is not, it’s equivocal. Can be the subject of so many interpretations. If it is the subject of many interpretations and even Secretary Guevarra said we will ask for a clarification from the Supreme Court. It means to say that that law is not very clear," he said. The President then reassured that the anomalies about the implementation of the law will be investigated. He earlier said that there appeared to be corruption in implementing the said measure. "They will be investigated, they have to face the music," Duterte said. "Those who participated in the proceeding, may mga ano 'yan, eh (they were up to something), those who prepared the document, made the study and made the recommendation," he added.
