Smuggled steel bars from China seized

(Bureau of Customs / Facebook / MANILA BULLETIN) Deputy Commissioner Raniel Ramiro, head of Customs-Intelligence Group (IG), said the shipment was only declared as flat bar and steel sheets by its consignee, Liuzhiga International Trading. Ramiro said before the cargoes' arrival at the Port of Manila on October 19, the bureau received information of a misdeclared shipment that will arrive in the country in the coming days. “The IG-CIIS (Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service) received a report on October 22, 2019, from a reliable source that a certain shipment might have violated the Customs laws by gross misdeclaration in quality-description of goods,” Ramiro said. From there, the shipment was monitored until it arrived at the port. Then, spot inspection on Monday pushed through against the subject shipment for verification and validation. During spot check, customs examiners found stainless angle bars and steel sheets contrary to the declaration stated in the entry filed by the consignee, Ramiro said. An alert order was issued against the shipment pursuant to Section 1111 of the Republic Act No. 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) while a warrant of seizure and detention will be issued against the shipment for violation of Section of 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of the CMTA. The bureau has yet to determine the value of the seized goods. Further investigation is being conducted,  the Customs bureau said, prior to the filing of appropriate charges against the personalities involved in the smuggling of goods.
