False alarm.
President Duterte has not yet named a new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) amid the circulation of a document in the social media stating that Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa is the new top cop.

Gamboa is currently the PNP' Officer-In-Charge after Gen. Oscar Albayalde quit his post on Monday over the controversial drug recycling issue.
"False, there is no announcement from President Duterte yet," said PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac.
He is referring to a supposed memorandum dated October 16 purportedly coming from the PNP Headquarters Support Service regarding the preparation for the turnover ceremony between Albayalde and Gamboa.
Albayalde was referred to in the alleged memo as the outgoing Chief PNP while Gamboa as the incoming PNP Chief.
Banac said the document is probably a part of the preparations for the scheduled Change of Command on October 29.
Albayalde is set to retire on November 8 but he went on Non-Duty Status on Monday until his mandatory retirement age.
"It could just be for planning purposes. As of now, nothing final yet, plans and details may change," said Banac.
Gamboa is one of the top three contenders for the Chief PNP, along with Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan and Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
Gamboa and Cascolan are members of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1986, along with former PNP chiefs Ronald dela Rosa and Albayalde.
Eleazar, on the other hand, is a member of PMA Class 1987.
