ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Business Education has been and will always be a preferred course among Western Visayas college enrollees, the Commission on Higher Education-6 (CHED6) said.

The CHED-6 enrollment profile of higher educational institutions (HEIs) for school year 2011-2012 shows that Business Education topped the ranking of disciplines with 72 percent followed by Teacher Education, 14.2 percent; Information Technology, 13.9 percent; Maritime Education, 11.8 percent; Medical Related , 9.4 percent; Law and Criminology, 6.0 percent; Engineering, 5.8 percent; Arts and Sciences, 4.1; Industrial Technology, 3 percent; and Agriculture, 2.5 percent.

P.E.T. Conducted

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Another Peer Educators’ Training (PET) will be conducted to teach participants skills in extending services in school-based teen centers April 26 to 30. Gennie L. Mariano, administrative operations in-charge of Provincial Population Office (PPO)-Capiz, said training participants will come from public secondary schools province-wide.

“A screening process was conducted last March 20 for the selection of participants in the forthcoming PET,” she said. Training was instituted by PPO-Capiz under OIC-Provincial Population Officer Yolanda E. Francisco, Mariano stressed. After the training, participants will help Teen Center coordinators in managing adolescent-friendly centers set up in 52 public high schools since 2003.

New Cop

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — Police Superintendent Rico Tome, who took over last Monday as this city’s police chief, replacing P/Supt. Hector Enage, said his new assignment here should be taken as a natural course in the life of just another police officer doing the best he can to dispense with his duties.

“I am not a superhero who can solve all the problems that need prompt police action like illegal drugs,” Tome told local journalists. Tome had been head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Mobile Unit in the province and chief of Police of Sogod town.

Skills Training

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Jobless Samarnons can now earn income once they undergo skills training of their choice. Livelihood training sessions will be provided 115 Samarnons interested in earning income.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority –Samar chief Cleta Omega said Sta. Rita town residents will be trained on hair cutting April 19 to 26. Another batch of 25 Samarnons from Pagsanghan town will be trained April 24-May 1 on manicure-pedicure craft.

TESDA said massage therapy training will also be done in Basey and Catbalogan City to benefit those wanting to have a job.

Dog Show

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Aklan province, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVET), will hold a Dog Show in observance of Aklan’s 56th anniversary as a separate province from Capiz. Provincial Rabies Prevention and Control Program coordinator Dr. Rolly Billones said the Dog Show, now on its sixth year, emphasizes to Aklanons the intense campaign for a rabies-free Aklan.

This year’s Dog Show theme is “Rabies Free-Aklan, Our Concern, Our Duty and Responsibility.”Said Billones,“We hope to achieve that goal by showcasing responsible pet ownership and proper handling and caring for dogs.
