A traffic enforcer was killed after he was run over by a 10-wheeler truck while he was manning traffic along Samson Road in front of a college in Caloocan City Monday morning.
Lt. Col. Ferdinand Del Rosario, Caloocan City assistant chief of police for administration, identified the victim as Jesus Paulite, 61, resident of Sta. Maria, Bulacan.
Arrested was Romel Cabillos, 32, resident of Bacoor, Cavite. He will be facing charges for murder, Del Rosario said.
Investigation showed that Paulite was manning traffic when he flagged down Cabillos, who was driving his truck towards the Bonifacio Monument Circle at about 7:50 a.m.
The traffic enforcer ordered Cabillos to pull over and give him his license since trucks are not allowed to pass through Samson Road, but the truck driver refused to stop, leading Paulite to block his path, Del Rosario said.
Eyewitnesses told the police that Cabillos drove forward then stopped repeatedly before he ran over Paulite.
The traffic enforcer's skull was crushed due to the impact, leading to his immediate death.
Del Rosario said Cabillos was flagged down by two other traffic enforcers before Paulite, but he just sped away from them.
The truck helper also told police that they paid two other traffic enforcers P500 each to allow them to pass through Samson Road.
Further investigation is ongoing for the identity and arrest of the two traffic enforcers who were bribed by Cabillos.
They will be facing corruption charges, Del Rosario said.
