Valenzuela LGU to donate P19.5 million to Mindanao earthquake victims

By Minka Klaudia Tiangco  The Valenzuela City government will be making a cash donation of P19.5 million to those who were affected by the series of strong earthquakes that shook Mindanao recently. (Valenzuela PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) (Valenzuela PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian said that the financial aid will be coming from the city’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF)-Quick Response Fund. "We are fortunate enough that we haven't touched a single centavo of our disaster fund so we have enough to keep for the city and donate to our brothers and sisters," Gatchalian said in a tweet Tuesday night. The provincial government of Davao Del Sur will receive financial assistance worth P2 million, while Digos City and the towns of Bansalan, Magsaysay, and Matanao, will get P1 million each. Meanwhile, the provincial government of Cotabato will receive a P4-million cash donation. Kidapawan City will receive P1.5 million and Magpet town will get P500,000. A total of P5 million, the largest share of the cash donation, will go to Makilala town, one of the hardest-hit areas during the series of temblors. Lastly, Tulunan town will get a P2.5-million donation. The Valenzuela City government will be the latest to send donations to the Mindanao earthquake victims. On Monday, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced that they will be donating P14 million financial aid and relief goods to the earthquake victims. Read more: Mayor Isko donates P5-million talent fee to victims of Cotabato quakes Last month, Cotabato was hit by three strong earthquakes in a span of 16 days — a magnitude 6.3 on October 16, a magnitude 6.6 on October 29, and a magnitude 6.5 on October 31. At least 22 people were confirmed dead while thousands of families were affected.
