Excellent Performances In ‘Pinoy Super Kid’

MANILA, Philippines - The team-up of 14-year-old Buboy Villar and Suzette Ranillo as son and mother in the fantasy-comedy-action movie “Pinoy Super Kid” is outstanding, as their appearances together are always highly emotionally charged – either in pain, sorrow or joy.
Buboy plays the super kid, Alex, who can predict, through his dreams, forthcoming robberies. He reports the robberies to a police precinct’s desk sergeant but the police officer berates him instead for the boy’s wild imagination.
But Alex is not dismayed at all and he does not stop until he finds an ally in the person of another police officer, a corporal, and with the help of his Uncle Ben (Mark Lapid), the three plan to confront the three-man gang of robbers.
But Alex is abducted by the three-man gang and is kept hostage in a hideout so that he can no longer predict the culprits’ movements.
The dramatic situations – when Delia (Suzette) reveals to Alex that the apartment owner is ejecting them because of their failure to pay their rent, is heart-rending. The two tackle the scene with excellence; when Delia finally meets her son in the hideout, and he looks like a zombie because of the punishment inflicted on him by the robbers, Delia hardly withstands the pain in her heart, and then rages at the three robbers, hitting them with her flailing hands.
That’s where you break down with tears!
How Suzette and Buboy interpret with excellence their roles is indeed amazing.
Before the take, the director, Leonardo Q. Belen, told Suzette: “If I don’t feel it, then you are not doing it right.”
But the director ended shedding tears himself almost forgetting to shout “cut!”
The other stars in “Pinoy Super Kid” produced by Engr. Edwin C. Lagadi are Mark Lapid, Rey “PJ” Abellana, Mon Confiado, Amay Bisaya, Edwin Reyes, Robert Miller, Aila Mendero, Princess Armillos, Gerould Aceron and Jay Christian, among others.

Pinoy Talent Manager Serves As Juror In 3rd Soho Film Festival
Talent manager, producer and advertising executive Arnold Vegafria has been invited to be one of the jurors in the 3rd Soho New York International Film Festival, slated from April 13-20 at the Sunshine Cinema, New York City.
He holds the distinction of being the only Asian in the jurors’ lineup, and is also the first Filipino to have been given the same honor. His extensive experience as a talent manager, concert/television and film producer, and advertising impresario ranked among the key factors that qualified him as one of this year’s esteemed jurors. He heads his own advertising firm, which has spearheaded the ad campaigns of some of the country’s top lifestyle brands.
Vegafria was the producer of the indie film, “Pitik Bulag,” directed by Gil Portes, which qualified as the country’s official entry and eventually won 2nd place in the 1st Soho International Film Festival two years ago.
“It’s an honor to represent the Philippines in this prestigious cultural affair,” Vegafria says. “With the critical success of our local filmmakers and directors from recent years, the whole world is watching us intently now, and it’s inspiring to know that we continue to reap the rewards of our filmmakers’ immeasurable talents.”
The awards night was on April 20 at 6 p.m. Pinoy entries in the film fest include “Senior Year” (directed by Jerrold Tarog) and “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” (directed by Alvin Yapan).
