Vice President Leni Robredo has denied she called for an additional four years of junior and senior high school under the K to 12 or 12-year basic education program.
Vice President Leni Robredo
(Charlie Villegas, OVP / MANILA BULLETIN) Robredo, who is the leader of the opposition, said she supports the plan to review the implementation of K-12 under the Enhanced Basic Education Act. “Hindi totoo pinadadagdagan ni VP Leni Robredo ang mga taon sa K-12 program,” her office said in a Facebook post. (It is not true that VP Leni Robredo is asking for additional years in the K-12 program.) “Binibigyang-diin niya na kailangang siguraduhin na may tamang facilities at equipment ang mga specialized tracks, para mas maging madali ang pagtuturo nito at matiyak ang kahandaang makapagtrabaho ng mga mag-aaral sa kanilang pagtatapos,” it added. (She emphasizes the need to make sure specialized tracks have the proper facilities and equipment so that teaching is much easier and to ensure the readiness of students to work once they graduate.) The Office of the Vice President corrected the fake quote attributed to her and tweeted by a certain Jug. The Twitter user posted an image of Robredo with a quote that read, “Kulang pa ang K-12 education system natin. Kelangan apat na taon sa Junior HS and apat na taon sa Senior HS.” (Our K-12 education system is lacking. We need more four years in Junior HS and four years in Senior HS.) Robredo reminded again the public to be more discerning when it comes to social media posts that spread fake news. The vice president has been calling out netizens who post false information about her to correct and debunk them. “Patuloy tayong maging mapanuri sa mga nababasa at iulat ang mga nagpapakalat ng fake news,” she said. (Let us continue to be critical of what we read and report those who spread fake news.) Last year, the opposition leader topped the list of victims of fake news based on the report of Vera Files on its fact-checking activities.
