DFA assures Filipinos in HK safe

By Allysa Nievera The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) assures the public that Filipinos in Hong Kong are safe and not affected by the escalating protests in the former British colony.

Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) "The DFA wishes to assure everyone that (contrary to some false reports circulating in social media) Filipinos in Hong Kong remain safe and are largely unaffected by the ongoing protests in the area." it said in a statement released on Friday. “The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong is closely monitoring the situation and is taking every step to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our nationals there. “ it added. Philippine Consul General Raly Tejada said earlier this week, that Filipino workers in Hong Kong have no plans on leaving the country and assured everyone that they are safe even amid the protests. The almost six-month anti-government protests have become more aggressive and violent with several people reported injured, classes in schools being suspended, and main roads being blocked.
