Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair and now Marikina Rep. Bayani Fernando suggested on Monday that adjusting work hours is better than implementing a 4-day work week.

"I think it's better if they'll adjust their office time," Fernando said in an interview with ANC's Headstart.
House Minority Leader, Manila 6th district Rep. Benny Abante has earlier called Malacañang to study the adoption of a four-day work, in the wake of the perennial traffic jams that typically worsen during the holiday months of November and December.
The proposal is a 4-day workweek but every working day has an additional two hours.
Fernando pointed out that a four-day working week may actually affect the productivity and income of the workers.
Meanwhile, Fernando said that it is time for President Duterte to transfer the powers to operate mass transport system such as the Metro Rail Transit, Light Rail Transit, as well as the subway to the MMDA.
“It’s about time to start this thing… The national agencies may be too busy now in other areas… they might as well relegate this job to an agency like MMDA which can focus on this.”
Fernando for his part believes that the agency should have the power to legislate and enact ordinances to help solve the crippling traffic problem.
