Teachers welcome 2018 PBB eligibility for DepEd personnel

  By Merlina Hernando-Malipot A federation of teachers on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of the Department of Education (DepEd) that all school-based personnel are now eligible to be granted the 2018 Performance Based Bonus (PBB). Issuing a statement, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines welcomed the decision of the AO25 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) despite DepEd's non-compliance with the requirements set by the task force. (ACT / MANILA BULLETIN) “Clearly, it is the product of teachers' clamor,” ACT Secretary General Raymond Basilio claimed. “Teachers and employees deserve to receive this bonus as they faithfully and even went beyond their means to deliver their functions.” Earlier, DepEd announced that the AO25 IATF “has decided to grant the 2018 PBB for teaching and non-teaching school-based personnel in all elementary and secondary schools nationwide,” subject to the submission of DepEd’s school level performance rating and ranking. “With this decision, we call for the DepEd and DBM (Department of Budget and Management) to immediately process the release of the bonus as this is badly needed by our teachers and employees with the continuing wrath of COVID-19 in the country,” Basilio said. “We further appeal to AO 25, on humanitarian ground, that all other employees of DepEd receive the same - everybody is affected by the crisis.” The PBB is an “incentive given to government employees in accordance to their performance and contribution to the accomplishment of their agency’s overall targets and commitments.” While the IATF granted the 2018 PBB for teaching and non-teaching school-based personnel in all elementary and secondary schools nationwide, non-school-based personnel were not included because DepEd has been found to be non-compliant with the requirements for the transparency seal, PhilGEPS posting, and two other reports under General Administration and Support Services and Cross-Cutting Requirements. Meanwhile, ACT also called on DepEd “act on this promptly” on reports of unpaid special hardship allowance and other related benefits of its personnel.
