Cardinal Tagle hopes for resurgence of spirituality

By Leslie Ann Aquino Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle hopes to see a resurgence of spirituality and of mission among people when the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic ends. We hope that at the end of this COVID-19 pandemic there will be a rebirth, a resurgence of spirituality and of mission," he said Wednesday at the Pontificio Collegio Filippino in Rome where he led the "Healing Rosary for the World." The Vatican's prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples also expressed hope that the experience will lead to an explosion of caring, compassion as well as review of lifestyle. "A review of life or lifestyle so that the word of God may spread and become contagious through our joy, through our zeal, through our love," said Tagle. In a Mass earlier in the day for the Feast of the Annunciation, the cardinal reminded the faithful that while physical distancing should be observed at this time, this should not lead to forgetfulness of neighbor. "As we observe physical distancing, let us not forget the communal caring. That’s what Jesus did, God with us,” Tagle said. The cardinal thanked all those who participated in the praying of the Rosary which was live streamed by the Manila Cathedral in their Facebook page. "Thank you for being part of this global cry of praise and trust, the supplication which is pleasing to the Father because it is a prayer that comes from the heart," Tagle said. The "Healing Rosary for the World" is an initiative of the Manila Cathedral which will be done every Wednesday night. In a Facebook post, the Manila Cathedral said the move was due to the overwhelming response of Filipinos who joined their Worldwide Rosary last week. Wednesday's "Healing Rosary for World" had more than 1 million views.
