Catholics urged to join 'Walk for Life' on Feb. 15

By Leslie Ann Aquino Catholic prelates have urged the public to stand up and defend life by joining the nationwide "Walk for Life" this Saturday, February 15. (Walk for LIFE official facebook page/ MANILA BULLETIN) (Walk for LIFE official facebook page/ MANILA BULLETIN) "We hope and pray that many of us will be there to show our interest, our commitment, our heart for advocacy in love and respect for life," Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, told church-run Radyo Veritas. Other prelates issued the same call. "All of us should stand up, pray and defend life given to us by God," said Lingayen Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas. "It's very important that we join in this advocacy. If we truly believe that life should be defended, walk for life in all its stages," said Kalookan Bishop Pablo David. Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity, urged Filipino families to join the activity. "Let us continue to urge the people to attend especially at this time when we are faced with different issues such as divorce and death penalty. Let us show to everyone that we are united and that we have force in numbers," he said. The activity is being organized by the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas. Among those that will hold the "Walk for Life" are the arch/dioceses of Lingayen Dagupan, Tarlac, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Palo and Manila. In Manila, the event will take place at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City at 4 a.m.
