Cebu City – The Greg Secker Foundation today turned over 100 homes to 583 survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Barangay Capinhan, Lemery, Iloilo City.
“Today is a big day. Today my foundation, I set up seven years ago gives away 100 homes to 583 survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines,” Greg Secker said in a Facebook post
New Homes, New Hope – The groundbreaking ceremony for the Greg Secker Foundation housing project in Lemery, Iloilo City.
Secker said he was nervous and excited at the same time. “But I guess most of all proud. You see, after all - I’m just a country boy from Norfolk, with a big heart and big dreams,” he said.
Secker also thanked the many people that supported him and his foundation, “working tirelessly to make my vision a reality.”
In its blog post, the Greg Secker Foundation team said it travelled to the Philippines together with its founder to launch the “Build a House Build a Home Project” in Lemery.
“It was great to return to Lemery and visit the families for whom we rebuilt new homes following the typhoon in 2013...and also very exciting to launch the ‘Build a House Build a Home Project,” Secker said in the same blogpost.
The project was borne out of a pilot project of developing two homes for families who lost everything during the onslaught of Yolanda in 2013. The foundation decided to build an entire village in Barangay Capinhan. The village consists of over 100 modern homes with full access to utilities and essential services.
The community will have a training center that will provide local residents with skills and technology to earn income outside of traditional sugar cane farming.
