The Eastern Police District (EPD) director appealed yesterday for the surrender of the village watchman of Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City who went into hiding after being implicated in last week’s deadly shooting.
Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Biay said he was appealing to Gilbert Gulpo to turn himself in and be subjected to a paraffin test.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and frustrated homicide have already been filed against the 10 policemen and three barangay watchmen involved in the controversial shooting incident that resulted in the death of a woman wounded in a previous shooting and the driver of the Asian utility vehicle that was supposed to take her to the hospital on the night of December 28.
“I am appealing to Mr. Gulpo to surrender and undergo a paraffin test,” Biay said. “Meanwhile, continuous efforts are being done to locate and persuade Gilbert Gulpo (to surrender).”
Barangay Addition Hills Chairman Kent Faminial told the Manila Bulletin days after the watchman went into hiding that he received a text message from Gulpo, saying that he will soon surrender.
Gulpo even told the chairman that he was scared and was waiting for the tension to cool down before he resurfaces.
Earlier, police officials admitted that the responding cops were given the wrong information when they chased and shot at the vehicle along Shaw Boulevard in which Jonalyn Ambaon and Jomar Hayawun were killed.
Two other barangay tanod allegedly involved in the shooting – Ernesto Fajardo are Wilmer Duron – are now in police custody.
