COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos rise to 8,432

By Betheena Kae Unite No new recoveries and fatalities were recorded among Filipinos suffering from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) abroad but 15 new confirmed cases were reported Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) The new confirmed cases brought the total COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos to 8,432 while recoveries remained at 5,081 and the death toll at 536. “With only five countries in the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe reporting on the status of our people abroad today (June 27), the DFA confirms 15 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad. Moreover, no new recoveries and fatalities were reported today,” the DFA said in an advisory. Most of the cases among overseas Filipinos were reported from the Middle East with 6,167 total cases – more than half of them have already recovered while 276 succumbed to the dreaded illness. There are 982 cases among Filipinos in Europe, with 420 rcoveries and 94 deaths. A total of 686 cases have been reported in the Americas with 373 recoveries and 164 deaths, while close to 600 cases are recorded in Asia Pacific Region with 511 recoveries and two deaths. The DFA said it will continue to keep track of the status of Filipinos abroad and work to safely repatriate more stranded nationals. A total of 171 stranded Filipinos, including workers, tourists, and individuals with special needs, arrived in the country Friday night. These are the overseas Filipinos who indicated their desire to return home through the second online survey conducted by the Philippine embassy in Singapore, the DFA said. Further, over 600 seafarers of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) from Barbados and stranded Filipinos from the United Arab Emirates also arrived in the country late Friday night in two separate flights.
