Far-flung villages in Mindanao that have yet to be reached by the Mindanao-wide polio vaccination campaign prompted the Department of Health (DOH) to extend round 2 of the anti-polio drive to another week.

The “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” round 2 in Mindanao will be extended for a week, Public Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said Monday.
The round 2 of polio vaccination in Mindanao will be extended for another week to mop up selected areas that have poor coverage),” Cabotaje said.
We are thinking about other mobile population in Mindanao where delays of vaccination and submission of reports occurred and we are still checking for areas that are yet to be covered due to concerns on peace and order and calamities),” the undersecretary added.
According to Cabotaje, it was important that they cover areas in Mindanao due to the number of cases coming from the region. Using rapid coverage assessment, the department is checking on the areas and children that are yet to receive polio vaccination.
Meanwhile, round 3 of the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” in Mindanao is set on January 20 to February 2, 2020 to give health workers ample time to prepare after the Christmas holidays, Cabotaje said.
WHO at UNICEF (Round three in the National Capital Region, including round 1 in Manila and rounds 2 and 3 in entire NCR, have concluded but obtaining of and evaluation on sewage samples continue together with experts from WHO and UNICEF),” the official said.
