REGISTRATION REVALIDATION
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Commission on Elections is urging registered voters to revalidate their registration early as the deadline nears. Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Gil Barcenal said Antique has so far revalidated only 40 percent of 280,544 registered voters. “We appeal to all registered voters to visit COMELEC offices in their respective municipalities early to avoid the rush and overcrowding come deadline set on October 31, 2012,” he said, stressing that “only registrations revalidated or registered in the computer will be included in the computerized voters’ list and names not in the computerized voters’ list will not be allowed to vote on May 2013 election.”

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — Two Cebu mayors say there is no need to ban religious symbols and ceremonies in government offices. Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is against Kabataan party-list Rep. Raymond Palatino’s House Bill 6330 or the Religious Freedom in Government Offices Act, seeking to prohibit religious ceremonies and the display of religious symbols “within the premises and perimeter” of government offices, including public spaces and corridors. Also, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said the presence of religious symbols and conduct of religious activities within Lapu-Lapu City Hall does not affect workers’ performance.
AKLAN’S SPESYALISTAS
KALIBO, AKLAN, (PIA) — Forty Aklanons trained by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) under its "Spesyalista" Technopreneurship Program will receive on June 22 tools for use in their respective livelihood ventures, increasing their chances of earning more income. TESDA-Aklan said the “Spesyalista” Technopreneurship program is funded by the Office of the President under the Training for Work Scholarship Program. The 40 Aklanons are from Altavas, New Washington, and Kalibo towns. They graduated from TESDA-provided training on Automotive, Electronics, Carpentry, Masonry, Construction, and Beauty Care, and Wellness Services.
SENIORS’ SUMMIT
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — A summit of senior citizens groups in Maasin City will be held today, June 21 at the Maasin City gym. The provincial federation of senior citizens representing 18 towns will participate in a joint quarterly conference on June 21, 2012 at the Maasin City Gymnasium. Resource speaker will be Senior Citizen Party List Rep. Godofredo V. Arquiza, said Maasin City Federation of Senior Citizens Associations president Wilfredo Justimbaste.
BOGO TREMOR
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — A mild tremor struck the coastal village of Siokon, Bogo City, Cebu Tuesday at midnight. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) 7 said the quake registered a magnitude of 3.3, or equivalent to an intensity 3 classification. Phivolcs seismic observer Robinson Jorgio in Lapu Lapu City said the classification means the quake was felt by many people and objects were observed to have moved, but no damage was reported and no aftershocks ensued as the tremor was too weak.
