NURSING APPLICANTS
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Despite issuance by the Commission on Higher Education of stringent regulations on schools offering nursing courses, the Professional Regulation Commission’s office in Region 6 says there continues to be a flood of nursing graduates applying for the Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) set June 30-July 1. PRC regional director Lily Ann Baldago says over 2,000 applicants will be taking the NLE in Western Visayas alone.

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — Two men on the run from the law for nearly two years were nabbed separately last Saturday by Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) operatives in Region 7. The two men were identified as Leonides Barbero, 34, of Brgy. Lusaran, Cebu City, and Nader Marikit, 28, of Brgy. Tabla, Liloan, Cebu. Barbero is accused of raping a cousin’s wife while Marikit is wanted for the fatal shooting of a certain Ranny Yuson who the former claims was shot accidentally during a scuffle. RSOG Insp. Ruel Burlat however says Marikit is suspected to be involved in gun-for-hire activities. A .45 pistol with two magazines and 10 live ammunitions were recovered from Marikit’s possession when he was arrested Saturday in Liloan.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Negros Oriental welders recently produced 50 newsstands for one of the largest national daily newspapers in the country. The group, comprised of ten welders from Sibulan who were trained and certified by the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) obtained a contract from the Manila Bulletin for 100 magazine stands worth R850 each. Partial payment of R47,076 was given by the Manila Bulletin to the group led by Ruben Ramirez who had personally negotiated for the work contract from the national daily. The racks were built at TESDA-registered training center, Cebu Science of Welding and Skills Technology, Inc. (CSWSTI), where Ramirez and his fellow welders graduated from.
NEW OFFICERS
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Provincial Agriculture and Fishery Council (PAFC) members elected a new set of officers at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Fisheries Training Center (BFAR-RFTC) Samar State University, Mercedes Campus in Catbalogan City last June 19. The new PFAC officers were organized to provide a forum for consultative and continuing discussions within the agriculture and fishery sector and act as an integrative and coordinating body for agriculture and fisheries modernization. The new PAFC chairman, Esteban Conchas, will represent Samar in Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) meetings and in the election of regional council members.
SCHOOLBUILDING COMPLETED
ORMOC CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Leyte recently completed Phase II of its schoolbuilding construction project in Brgy. San Pablo, this city, in time for school opening. The construction project was contracted to Forecastle Construction under DPWH, 4th Leyte Engineering District supervision. It was begun March 5, 2012 and completed before its June 2, 2012 target completion date.
