CAPIZ BLOGSITE

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers, Inc. (CAGPIO) through the help of the Capiz Provincial Press Bureau (CPPB) is setting up an online blog site as additional venue for its information dissemination activities. The blog site and a Facebook account of the association are set to be presented before CAGPIO members during a regular meeting this week for comments and eventual webcasting. CAGPIO president Carlette C. Pretta said the use of online media to inform Capiceños on the various programs and projects of the government as well as solicit feedbacks is among the priority thrust of the association for this year.

CEBU’S BADJAOS

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — This city’s Badjaos are exerting efforts in making their community in Sitio Pungtod, Alaska Mambaling, Cebu City, a clean and orderly area through the aid and support of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Bajau Integrated Area Development Project (BIAD-P).  Ten cluster leaders of the Badjao community were designated to lead the community’s efforts in keeping their surroundings clean and safe. Also taught were proper sanitation practices, including frequent washing of hands and daily bathing. BIAD-P is an initiative by RAFI through its Integrated Development unit, Presentation Sisters, and the University of San Carlos, which aims to make the Badjaos here a self-sufficient, progressive, and self-reliant community with a sense of pride and belongingness.

COOP CONTENDER

BACOLOD CITY (PIA) — This city’s cooperative development unit and its head are strong contenders in the Region 6 search for nominees to the national Cooperative Development Authority (CDA)’s Gawad Parangal awards. Bacolod City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (CCLDO) is a top contender in the category of Outstanding Local Government Unit-CDA Office Award, while its head Brenda Burdeos is vying for Outstanding Cooperative Leader Award. The Gawad Parangal is an award and recognition program under the CDA, which is under the Office of the President, for cooperatives, partners, and leaders for their exemplary performance, best practices, and governance.

DENGUE DAY

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Samar province, through the provincial health office (PHO), observed ASEAN Dengue Day last June 25, along with the two other Samar provinces.  A forum with barangay officials was held in Catbalogan City to ensure that rural folks are properly guided on how to avoid dengue in their barangays. Dengue program coordinator Rogelio Brillantes said the highest number of cases here were posted in 2010, with cases soaring to 11,000 in the region. “Some 141 cases were recorded from Samar with nine deaths. We sought the barangays’ help to work together so we can prevent dengue,” he said.

CHECK POINTS 

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) has set up check points in municipalities here in line with its campaign “Oplan Katawhayan sa Dalan (or, Oplan Road Safety)” to step up the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s anti-criminality drive.  APPO Provincial Director PSSupt Ruperto T. Floro Jr. said "Oplan Katawhayan sa Dalan" is a regional initiative of the Philippine National Police under the leadership of PCSupt. Cipriano E. Querol Jr. aimed at neutralizing illegal activities or crimes related to the use of unregistered motorcycles.
