NAIC VILLAGES IN CALAMITY STATE

NAIC, Cavite — Ten coastal barangays (villages) of this town were placed under state of calamity due to the off-and-on flooding triggered by high tide and a number of people displaced by big waves caused by strong winds in the area. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) approved the release of P6.4 million upon request of Governor Jonvic Remulla as fund for the rehabilitation of the affected barangays, namely Timalan Balsahan, Timalan Conception, Mapino, Bucana Malaki, Bucana Sasahan, Sapa, Bancaan, Mabolo, Labac and Bagong Karsada. The SP members led by Vice Governor Recto M. Cantimbuhan ordered the release of the funds to assist the victims. (Anthony Giron)

LOGISTICS CONFAB

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — This free port will host a conference that will highlight its premiere attractions as an investment and logistics hub and as a gateway to Asia’s expanding market. The Subic Bay Maritime Conference and Exhibit, which will be held here on August 23-24 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center, is expected to attract more than 300 investors, shippers, and logistics and supply chain executives and will look at the advantages of Subic as a vital investment area for shipping and logistics companies. The theme for the grand event is “Subic Bay: Asia’s Emerging Logistics and Investments Hub.” (Jonas Reyes)

FREE NOTEBOOKS

PLARIDEL, Bulacan — In a bid to provide quality education for the youth of Bulacan, at least 100,000 grade two public schools pupils in this province will receive notebooks this month under the continuing “adopt-a-school” program of the provincial government. The distribution of notebooks in schools in Plaridel, Bustos and San Miguel yesterday was led by Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, with assistance from Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office head Rowena Joson-Tiongson. (Freddie C. Velez)

LIFE PRESERVERS

STA. CRUZ, Laguna — The Laguna Police Provincial Office (PPO) has donated 100 life-preservers, locally known as “salbabida,” to some residents in this town as the rainy season set in. Senior Supt. Gilberto Cruz, Laguna Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, said the said life-saving devices were defective tires given by former 1-Utak party-list representative and owner of bus company Engr. Homer Mercado. The tires were fixed by the personnel of the Laguna PPO before distributed by town officials to fishermen and residents. (Ferdinand F. Castro)

QUEZON L.G.U.S GET D.I.L.G. SEAL

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The local governments of Quezon province and its 39 municipalities and two cities received last Monday the marker of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Seal of Good Housekeeping. The seal awarded by the DILG is a mark of effective performance in governance, management of a local government unit. The markers were given to the recipients in simple ceremonies led by the DILG Regional 4-A Office at the Kalilayan Hall of the Governor’s Mansion in this city. DILG Regional Director Josefina Castilla-Go handed over to 28 mayors and Quezon Governor David C. Suarez their respective seals on the occasion of the Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS) utilization conference. (Danny Estacio)
