The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that it has completed a P70.95-million slope protection structure along Quitangil Creek to ensure public safety during heavy rains in the residential and agricultural communities in Magalang, Pampanga.
Implemented by the DPWH Third District Engineering Office, the agency said that the slope protection will prevent the creek from overflowing while providing stability and defense against erosion of the riverbank and scouring brought by rising river water or strong currents during excessive raining.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Central Luzon Operations Roberto R. Bernardo, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the slope protection was completed in Quitangil Creek’s section that runs along Barangay Turu in Magalang town.
He noted that the new slope protection with a total area 20,240 square meters with footing made of reinforced concrete reaching a depth of 1.50 meters has a total length of 2.75 kilometers.
The funds for the project was sourced from the 2022 General Appropriation Act (GAA), the DPWH said.
