STRAWBERRY PARADISE

BOAC, Marinduque — The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) here is training farmers for the planting of strawberries in one of the towns in this province found to be a potential paradise for strawberries. A cold place wherein vegetables can grow was discovered in Barangay Sibuyao, Sta. Cruz. Some 2,000 square meters in said village is the target place to plant seedlings and the office of PAO will build two units of green house to monitor production of crops and to directly assist the farmers. Cora Peregrin of the PAO said strawberry has a great potential since it is an all-year-round crop. An area is now being prepared for 100 seedlings that may produce a yield after 45 days. PINEDA INAUGURATES NEW PUBLIC MARKET 

STO. TOMAS, Pampanga — Governor Lilia G. Pineda recently led the inauguration of the R2-million newly constructed state-of-the-art public market funded by the provincial government located at the crossing area of Barangay San Matias, here. The inauguration was done after the governor distributed the motorcycle patrols to seven villages of the town which would be used for the maintenance of peace and order and during emergency situation. Mayor Joselito Naguit expressed gratitude to the governor for her overwhelming support. (Franco G. Regala)

PROJECTS UNVEILED 

SARIAYA, Quezon — Quezon Governor David C. Suarez has formally turned over yesterday to Mayor Rosauro “Boyet” Masilang the list of various infrastructure projects for this town. The development projects, amounting to a total of R60 million, were presented by Suarez to Masilang and municipal and barangay leaders in Barangay Mamala 1, here. The package includes the construction of farm-to-market roads, provincial roads, a municipal port, and the rehabilitation of apotable water system. (Danny Estacio)

MIGRATION RESOURCE CENTER FOR CAVITE

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Irene de Padua Bencito, the lone woman provincial legislator, has filed a proposed ordinance creating a Cavite Migration Resource Center which will attend to the concerns and needs of overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs) and their families in the area. Bencito made the move as she cited that Cavite is the No. 2 area with the most number of OFW residents in the country after the National Capital Region (NCR). The center will oversee the utmost needs of OFWs and their families, particularly the “negative aspects” such as abuses, illegal trafficking or recruitment, contract and benefit problems, communication, and family concerns such as marital spats and out-of-school youth. TREE-PLANTING DONE IN BARAS

BARAS, Rizal — As their contribution in the national government’s drive to save the environment, the men and women of the Rizal Provincial Police Office (PPO) actively participated in a tree-planting activity organized by a non-government organization in an upland area of this town recently. Led by PPO director, Senior Supt. Rolando Anduyan, the policemen assisted the members and officials of the Haribon Foundation and other volunteers in planting some 1,873 seedlings of hardwood such as Narra, Red Lawaan, Kamagong, Malabati, Takip Asin, and Ilang-iIang on the hilly Malalim Communal Forest at Sitio Malalim of Barangay SanJuan in this town.
