7 Cop Dependents Get Scholarships
CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur — Seven police dependents received the other day scholarship grants awarded by the Saint John Bosco College of Northern Luzon (SJBCNL). San Fernando City Councilor Rodolfo M. Abat of La Union and the president and chairman of the Board of Trustees of SJBCNL conferred the scholarship to the grantees namely; Evan Kyle C. Milo, Virgilio N. Corpus Jr., Ruby Jane Martinez, Jestoni Valdez, Jessa A. Espino, Samantha Corpuz and Benjie Boy Verdadero. Chief Superintendent Franklin J.B. Bucayu said this was only the first batch of the Police Regional Office 1 scholarship program dubbed “Gawad Bosconian Para sa Kapulisan ng Region 1.” (Freddie G. Lazaro)
‘Higantes’ As Art And Ruler
ANGONO, Rizal — True to its tagline of being the country’s “Art Capital,” this town has introduced another way of propagating its Art and Eco Tourism by painting a family of the so-called “Higantes” on the walls of river banks, not just for arts’ sake, but to serve as measurements of the water level in rivers. Mayor Gerardo “Gerry” Calderon commissioned local artists for the “Higanteng Sukatan” (Giant Measuring Instrument) project. The paintings of the Higantes, comprising of a father giant, a mother giant, and a kid giant, on the dikes of the river, aim to help the river community residents as well as motorists to easily know the level of water in the river. CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — Nine towns from this province and the Central Luzon State University (CLSU), which houses several government agricultural and research offices, will experience a nine-hour power interruption on July 12, from 8 a.m. up to 5 p.m., the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced yesterday. NGCP Regional Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Officer for North Luzon Lilibeth Gaydowen said the affected areas are the towns of Quezon, Licab, Guimba, Talugtog, Science City of Muñoz, San Jose City, Lupao, Pantabangan and Caranglan. Mayor Garcia Vies For Awards
BALANGA CITY, Bataan — After being nominated as “Lingkod ng Bayan” awardee by the Civil Service Commission, Mayor Joet S. Garcia is now also hoping for the Balanga City Agriculture Office to win as the region’s bet for the Pag-Asa Award. This is the first time a mayor of Balanga is considered for the presidential awards. Garcia was a previous recipient of the national awards “Best Practices” in the mayor category; Seal of Good Governance; and the “Red Orchid” from the Department of Health for his Balanga Smoking-Free City campaign. Taytay Jeep Flips And Turns
TAYTAY, Rizal — Several passengers were injured when the jeepney they were riding in smashed into the center island’s concrete barrier before the vehicle rolled over and hit the pavement on Ortigas Avenue Extension here yesterday morning. Supt. Arthur Masungsong, chief of police here, said the passenger jeep (DWE-816) was driven by Rolando Guerrero, 42, who was also among the injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Guerrero lost control of the vehicle while speeding along the highway towards Shaw Boulevard, said Masungsong. (Nel B. Andrade)
