4 out of 25 COVID-19 cases in Davao region are healthcare workers

DAVAO CITY - Four out of 25 cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Davao region are healthcare workers, the latest data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

According to the Department of Health (DOH) Davao Region’s COVID-19 Weekly Situationer, a total of 358 healthcare workers have been found positive for COVID-19 in Davao region.

The data released on Tuesday, September 8, also showed that a total of 1,835 healthcare workers have already been tested.

The DOH said 19.4 percent of the healthcare workers tested turned out positive for COVID-19.

The data also showed that, as of September 8, the region has recorded a total of 2,309 cases, with 408 still active cases and 1,833 recoveries.

“Of the 2,309 cases identified, 1,170 or 51 percent were male, and 1,139 or 49% were female. This correlates with the national and international statistics of COVID-19 patients,” it said.

The most number of cases were recorded in Davao City, which has 214 active cases, followed by Davao del Norte with 74; Davao de Oro with 66; Davao del Sur with 31; Davao Oriental with 21; and Davao Occidental with four active cases.

“Based on the data, there is still on-going local transmission in the region,” the DOH report said.

The report showed that there were 26 clustered locations in the region which comprised 80 percent of the COVID-19 infections.

Agdao district in Davao City had the highest cumulative number of cases with 264 and 37 cases recorded for the past 14 days.

The COVID-19 deaths in the region was also at 2.9 percent for 68 deaths.

The DOH report said the case fatality in the region is “higher than the national death rate of 1.6 percent.”
