Tropical depression Marce enters PH area of responsibility

The low pressure area (LPA) east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression with local name “Marce.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA became a tropical depression around 2 p.m. It is the 13th cyclone this year, and second in September.

PAGASA estimated the location of “Marce” at 1,275 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon around 4 p.m., with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It is forecast to move north-northwest then north on Sunday evening and north-northeast by Monday morning. 

It is not expected to stay long inside the Philippine area of responsibility as it may exit the vicinity between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

“Marce” is no longer seen to make landfall nor have a significant impact over any part of the country in the coming days.

As the cyclone is too far from the Philippines, warm and humid weather will prevail across the country with only some isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening within the next 24 hours.

However, PAGASA advised the public to take precaution during severe thunderstorms as it may trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in high-risk areas. 

The State weather bureau has not issued a gale warning on Sunday as sea conditions will only be slight to moderate.

Fishing boats and other small vessels are safe to sail.
