Differences in the Binay family are rocking the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) political boat.

These surfaced after former Vice President Jejomar Binay, 75, one of the founders of UNA, came out publicly for the reelection bid of his daughter, current Makati Mayor Mar-Len Abigail ‘’Abby’’ Binay, 42.
UNA was formed preceding the 2016 presidential elections with the elder Binay making a bid for the presidency. He lost.
The elder Binay’s stance is diametrically opposed to the position of another daughter, Senator Maria Lourdes Nancy Binay, 45, who supported the bid of her brother, former Makati Mayor Jejomar Irwin ‘’Junjun’’ Binay, 41, for the Makati mayoral post.
The lady senator even escorted her brother to a Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Makati city to file his certificate of candidacy (COC).
Piqued, Senator Binay is now taking a leave of absence effective yesterday as UNA president ‘’in light of recent developments within the party.’’
‘’With my absence, I will be focusing more on my job as a Senator and put all my efforts in advancing pending legislation in the 17th Congress,’’ she explained.
‘’As an official senatorial candidate of UNA in the 2019 National Elections, I will still continue to advance UNA’s core agenda of competence and the Binay brand of service,’’ she added.
Former Vice President Binay and former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay are both facing graft charges arising from questionable building contracts during their terms as Makati mayors.
